How do I put an Exynos-based device into Boot ROM mode?
To enter Boot ROM mode, Samsung devices require short-circuit of the test pins. However, some models have alternative methods:
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9: Hold Vol - and Bixby buttons.
- Samsung Galaxy S9/9+: Hold the two left buttons and the button on the right.
Passware Tip: Refer to Exynos test-point gallery for pins location.
From which mobile applications can data be decrypted?
In addition to the passcode recovery, Passware Kit Mobile detects installed applications and performs instant decryption or initiates password recovery process. Application decryption results are saved as an SQLite database in the “unprotected” folder of the project output folder.
The following applications are supported:
Application | Recovery Options |
Wickr Me | Instant decryption |
Signal | Instant decryption |
1Password up to v.7 |
Instant decryption / Brute-force |
What encryption methods are supported for Unisoc-based devices?
The following encryption methods can be used on Exynos-based mobile devices with full disk encryption:
- Secure Startup
Passware Tip: Instant decryption is available for phones with disabled Secure Startup - PIN, Pattern, Password
Decrypted data format is EXT4 (.DD).
Passware Tip: The password structure can be discovered on some devices at:
/system/device_policies.xml
Can GPU acceleration be used with Exynos-based devices?
For Exynos-based devices with Secure Startup enabled, Passware Kit Mobile performs GPU-accelerated brute-force and distributed password recovery.
NOTE: The mobile device must remain connected during the recovery and decryption processes.
What happens if the computer powers off or restarts while I am brute-forcing the device password? Will I lose progress or be charged an extraction credit from my license balance?
The recovery state is automatically saved, so the progress is not lost if the computer powers off or reboots. No additional extraction credit is required as long as the same Passware Kit Mobile Product Key is used.
To resume the recovery process, launch PKM again and select the project from the “Recent Projects” tab on the right pane. Passware Kit Mobile will resume the process from the last saved state.
Alternatively, you can also resume the project by clicking the “Open project” button on the start page and locating the pkm_project.pwproj file in the project output folder.
