What if I am brute-forcing the device password, and the machine loses power or restarts? Will I lose progress and get an extraction charged from my license balance?
The recovery state is saved automatically even if the computer gets powered off or reboots.
On the Start Page, select the latest project from the “Recent Projects” tab on the right pane. Passware Kit Mobiles will resume the process from the most recent save.
The number of extractions available will not be affected.
From what mobile applications can data be extracted?
Besides passcode recovery, Passware Kit Mobile detects the installed applications and performs instant decryption, if possible. Otherwise, it begins the recovery process. The decrypted device data is typically saved as an EXT4 file system image in DD format for the devices with full-disk encryption and in DAR archive for file-based encryption, which is commonly supported by forensic applications for further analysis. Application decryption results are saved as an SQLite database.
Below is the list of applications supported for data extraction:
Application | Recovery Options |
Wickr Me | Instant decryption |
Signal | Instant decryption |
1Password | Instant decryption / Brute-force |
What encryption methods can be used on MediaTek-based devices?
The following encryption methods can be used on mobile devices with full disk and file disk encryption:
- Secure Startup
- PIN, Pattern, Password, Knock code (LG only)
- Instant decryption (for phones with Secure Startup disabled)
Passware Tip: For some devices, password type can be found on the device itself at /system/device_policies.xml or lock_settings_db.xml
Can GPU acceleration be used with MediaTek-based devices?
For MediaTek-based devices, Passware Kit Mobile performs GPU-accelerated brute-force password recovery without needing to connect the device.
The recovery speed can be accelerated on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, reaching 80-200 passwords per second on NVIDIA 2080Ti for smartphones with the Secure Startup option enabled.
Passware Tip: For devices with Secure Startup option disabled, Passware Kit Mobile instantly decrypts user data and subsequently performs the recovery of the user password.
