Supported devices
Distributed password recovery is beneficial for Android devices that are supported for GPU-accelerated password recovery, are encrypted with alphanumeric or long passcodes, or have one of the following applications installed: 1Password, Wickr, Dashlane, or Signal. Password recovery for Apple devices, and Android devices with Hybrid, on Device recovery method cannot be accelerated with distributed computing.
Passware Kit Agents modes and settings
- If the Agent is in the auto-assign mode, it connects and auto-updates itself to the version of the Server, that was first launched on the network. To avoid this, manually assign the Agent to the preferred Server or disable the “Auto-update” option.
- Passware Kit and Passware Kit Mobile can be set to use different broadcast ports in Tools | Options | Hardware | Distributed Password Recovery if the Agents pool needs to be divided between several Servers. In this case, connect the Agents using the "Assign manually" option and indicating the specific Server’s port after the IP address, e.g., 192.168.0.10:10789.
- Passware Kit Agents compatible with each type of the Server are automatically updated to the Server's version if “Allow” is checked for auto-updates in the Agent’s settings.
- If the incorrect type of Passware Kit Agent keeps launching even after manual installation, close it, delete the folder \User\AppData\Roaming\Passware\SearchAgent\Update and run the Passware Kit Agent installation file to repair and launch the correct type of the PK Agent.
- Agent’s ports, Server’s assignment, and other settings can be manually changed in the settings file or at the Server’s Resource Manager if the Agent is connected.
Resource Manager tab
- Passware Kit Agent is cross-platform. Right-click the connected Agent in the Resource Manager and choose “Update and assign to this Server” to make it compatible with the specified Passware Kit Server.
- If the Agent does not appear in the Resource Manager, use the +Add Agent button and provide the Agent’s IP address. Make sure the Agent and Server are on the same network and all the required ports are open.
- If Passware Kit Agent is assigned to Passware Kit Mobile, the Resource Manager of Passware Kit Ultimate/Forensic/Business displays the Agent’s status as “Incompatible version.”
- Passware Kit Agents are only used for password recovery with the Server they are compatible with. Always check the version’s compatibility.
- In the multi-window mode, Passware Kit Mobile Agents can only be used by the instance launched first. The "Network" trigger in the Resource Manager allows the current instance to use the network Agents and disconnects them from other instances.
